Rohtak
Rohtak is one of the historical and progressive districts of Haryana. It is believed that Rohtak was established by elder son of Lord Shiva, 'Kartikay'. There was a dence forest of "Rehore" a tree found in this region. Rohtak name is derived from this tree. In 'Mahabarata' there is mention of Rohtak. In Sabha perva' of 'Mahabatata' there is a mention that 'Nakul' conquered teh ten forts of 'Yodehy's' which include 'Rohtakam'or Rohtak, 'Mehtham' or Meham, and 'Sirishkam or Sirsa.
According to one ancient 'Purans' 'Skand Puran' there were 5,00,000 villages in Haryana and Rojtak was its capital. Many strong forts of Meham, Hansi, Sirsa, Meerut, Hastinapur, Satkumbha, Sthaneshweri, Mohanbari, Prakritnagar, Patannagar, Havannagar and Malba were also there. Near Rohtak there is a place Khokrakot were reuins of forts of Khokar King Khokhrashah are still found. Archiologists have found many coins and articles of historical importanc from this site.Several coins of 'Yodyey's kindom are also found which shows the exixtance of there mints here.
In 1824 Rohtak was made seperate district and Gohana, Kharkhoda, Beri, Meham and Rohtak Tehsils were included in it. In 1841 some area of this district was given to Panipat and rest of the area upto Meham was put under Delhi.
