Palwal

City of Palwal has an important place in History of Haryana. Located in the south most corner of Haryana, Palwal is in Faridabad district. It is believed that there was a demon named 'Palamba Sur' in 'Dwaper Yug'. He was killed by Balram also known by 'Dau',elder brother of Lord Krishana. This city was his capital of this demon, so it was named Pawal. According to another information 'Pandavs' use to live in the woods of this area during their secret exile 'Agyatwas'of one year. 'Panchvati' temple was built in their memory here. There is also an old pond named as 'Dropdi Ghat'.One old temple of 'Dau' is also here. One village of subdivision named 'Aherwa whose old name is 'Awaravan' has mention in the tales of 'Shrimad Bhagwat'. British gain control over it when Lord Lake defeted Mirja Khan of Delhi

On April 10, 1919 Mahtma Gandhi was arrested by the British govt. for the first time when he arrived on the Palwal railway station on his visit to Panjab. Gandhi ji was going to Panjab to protest against the killings of Jalianwala Bagh. To remember this incident 'Gandhi Sewashram' is built on national highway on the outskirts of the town. Now this ashram is being run by Gandhi Sewashram trust.
